For me it all starts when ever I first got my membership packet. Sure it was nice and shiny and they made out being a Mufon member to be a wonderful and glorious experience. Boy was I wrong.
In addition to my membership I also purchased the field investigator training materials . So far I was into Mufon about $100 bucks. So here I am holding a nice new notebook full of interesting things to read and a shiny new magazine. I contacted my SSD to inquire about meetings and what will happen when I finish reading the training manual and take the test. Guess what I found out? After over a month of trying to get a hold of her by email and phone, I found out that the central Florida chapter of Mufon was Lucky to hold one meeting every quarter ( I later found out that some times it was more rare than that). In addition to that I was informed that it was normally held in a restaurant, and all in attendance we required to purchase something. There was normally a guest speaker who gave a lecture on there particular topic and if they had products or merchandise available , we would be encouraged to purchase that also. But I figured what the hell i might as well go, after all a Saturday in Orlando is normally pretty fun.
So I drove the hour there and found the venue( I wont name names , but It was a privately owned franchise) As I walked in I thought to myself , this is a small place for a meeting such as this, I was especially confused considering that the Orlando public library has private meeting rooms , at a VERY reasonable rate. But I sat down and gave it a chance. Then the bomb dropped , the guest speaker was Clark C MCelland . For those have you who dont know who he is, look him up. Ill sum up my feelings about him here: he is full of crap and despite him living 15 minutes away from me, he refuses to meet me and talk, if any one wants a better explanation ill post it.. So after an hour of sitting threw this lecture eating an over priced snack , which was more like a high pressure sales pitch. I got up in left.
A few days later I emailed my ssd again to ask about the next meeting, and to try again to get an answer about investigator training . About the meeting i was told basically it depended on who she could find and what the had to offer ( great another sales pitch ) and in a nut shell if the case was good, her and a few select others got it,if it was crap she would see about sending it my way.
So right about this time I had had enough, I took my experience to the old mufon forum hoping to maby get some where. Know what i got there? Censored by a (now) former ssd from California . Guess Mufon isnt happy when there dirty laundry goes public ;D I took my complaints to the state director of Florida and Clifford Clift him self ,got more of nothing. After that I gave up On Mufon and never looked back. Guess my hundred bucks just didn't mean much to them. On a side not though, when ever my membership ran out a few months back, they sent me 3 letters begging me to sign up for a renewal . Mufons new motto should be : give us your money, sit down and shut up.
